Hi all,

Just joined the forum and would like to ask some advice.

I'm would very much like to take up drumming.
I'm a total beginner, never played drums in my life.
I am thinking of purchasing a set of E-Drums
Is that a dirty word to you guys Very Happy
What i have read recently on the web it seems a lot of old school drummers hate the things but due to space issues and the wife giving me ear ache on the noise i have no option.
I don't intend to gig (if i get any good) but use them for home use.
I have a ten year old son who is also very keen on learning.
I have been looking at the Alesis DM5 Pro Kit.
It seems to have good reviews and is said to be an ideal starter kit for the beginner.
It's also a good price (i have a £500 budget)

Do any of you guys have any thoughts on the above kit, or any other kits out there that may offer a better option?

Cheers

Hi
Its been a little mad recently but glad to hear from you.

E kits are fine. Especially if you don't intend to gig. I use one (acoustic aswell) for recording and practise but i don't believe there are so many situation live where they work so well.
Acoustic kits are the ultimate for me in terms of touch and that special human feel that doesn't come accross so much in the e-market.
They are great fun though! It doesn't limit your ability to play either, I strongly believe. Bear in mind that acoustic kits can also be made to be quieter. I do think if anyone intends to play in front of people, then some experience behind an acoustic kit is useful.
Hope that helps
Matt
